What is MTCA?
Established in 2005, Musical Theater Competitions of America (MTCA) is a three-day creative collaboration among musical theater producers, directors, costume designers, set designers and choreographers held at the Hilton Hotel at the Anaheim Resort, Anaheim, California.Β This annual three-day extravaganza provides a competitive yet education event for musical theater students and directors alike!
Unlike other festivals, MTCA students are allowed the use of costumes, props, microphones and blocks to enhance their storytelling capabilities during their adjudications.Β

All Students receive live immediate and relevant feedback that encourages growth and development.
The MTCA adjudication team is comprised of college-level theater faculty, Broadway performers and choreographers, Disney Master Class teachers, and regional theater owners.Β
The festival concludes with a magical awards ceremony at Knottβs Berry Farm theme park.Β Over 200 awards are handed out to the winning performers in each category.Β Following the awards, students and directors enjoy a day of fun experiencing the best that Knottβs Berry Farm has to offer!

Meet Our Team
Director/Music Director
Tracie Jones
“Hi Guys, I’m Tracie! ππΌ I’m thrilled to be asked to put together a team for the upcoming MTCA Competition season and can’t wait to work with an incredible team!”
As the founder and Producing Artistic Director of CounterPoint Entertainment Studios, Tracie Jones has a true passion for mentoring and shaping student dreams. Tracie has over 35 years of music and performing arts training, experience and educating. She has been an accompanist, director, musical director and vocal coach for various theatres, recordings, schools and organizations, and she is an accomplished pianist, vocalist and instrumentalist. Tracie is practiced in classical, Broadway, country, jazz, rock, and pop styles, music theory, ear training and much more.
She previously served as the Director of Education and an instructor for Actorβs Youth Theatre (AYT) for 6 years and was the Executive Artistic Director for 3 years. During that time, she produced, directed and/or music directed approximately 45 full-length productions with well over 40 additional camps, showcases, events and other productions. Tracie lives to create opportunities for students to grow and build viable careers in the performing arts industry, and her teaching philosophy is both flexible and motivating.
With students of all ages, Tracie adapts each lesson and performance experience to meet the abilities, interests and proficiency of the individual while also encouraging every student to reach beyond what they thought possible. Watching her students create and fulfill their own dreams is what gives her heart the most joy.

Meet Bruce Goolsbyβ ππΌ β

He grew up dancing under the late Jazz Master,πΊπΌ Frank Hatchett, at his School of Performing Arts in Springfield, Ma. He studied everything from ballet, jazz, and tap to voice and acting. β

His performance credits include, ‘The Evening is Yours’, ‘Philly’sΒ Beat’ and a road production of βDream Girlsβ in addition to numerous radio and television appearances.Β He also was a member of the R&B group Secrets. β β

He lives in Mesa, AZ with his lovely wife, Michele, and their adorable dog Biggie.β

These days, he can be found teaching Tap Dance and Musical Theatre Dance at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. In addition, he frequently conducts Tap and African dance workshops at colleges and high schools throughout the greater Phoenix area.
Say hello to Shayla ππΌ
She has been performing in theatre and film work for practically her whole life, and will be competing in tap with Team USA in the Czech Republic in October. She has helped choreograph dance routines in several shows, and she is looking forward to helping choreograph the MTCA team!
